Because there’s so many things you need to do after the initial idea for the work to be put out into the world. As a photographer, I have to produce the shoot, schedule the shoot, have the shoot, post process after the shoot, and it goes on and on.
With writing there isn’t much that stands in the way from idea to publishing. Good writing is the clear expression of a valuable idea. It’s not easy to do, but the distance between doing the work and putting it out in the world is short. There’s a lot less in the way.
It’s why platforms like Medium and Substack are so popular. They make that process from idea to publishing almost instantaneous because they take care of all the other things a writer would need to do to have their words read.
As a creator, when you write you can gain momentum on your project before you start doing any work. Writing means you have to clarify your idea so that it is easily understandable and compelling. When you share your writing online, you’ll get validation on the idea before you put more work, and rally people around it who want to be a part of the project.
So start writing even if you aren’t a writer.
