I’m gearing up to write a bigger piece about the infinite mindset we should have as creators.
Here’s some of the ideas I’m working through.
The infinite mindset comes from understanding any worthwhile endeavor is an infinite game, not a finite one.
Finite games are games with fixed rules, fixed players, and a fixed outcome. An example of finite games are sports or board games. The goal of a finite game is to win.
Infinite games are games where the rules are always changing, the players are always changing, and the outcome is always changing. The goal of an infinite game is to keep the game going. Players in an infinite game are successful as long as they get to keep playing. Examples of infinite games are relationships, business, education, or health.
All the things important in our lives have qualities of an infinite game. The problem is that we approach these infinite games as if they are finite. We often play these games to win when the point is to keep the game going.
